New Phones

Samsung Steel now available from Vodafone

The new Samsung Steel is exclusive to Vodafone and has a couple of fantastic launch offers, which are only available online.

Vodafone are offering 600 xnet minutes and unlimited texts for just £25 per month. That’s £10 off the normal in-store price of £35 per month. Amazing value and even better than T-Mobile’s highly publicised Direct Combi tariff which offers 700 mins and unlimited texts for £30 per month.

Encased in a tough metallic finish and similar to the Samsung Soul, the new Samsung Steel is a 3G sliderphone with HSDPA and a built-in DAB radio. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and image stabiliser. There’s also a secondary camera for making 3G video calls.

If you mainly use your phone for texting then Vodafone also offer a free Samsung Steel with unlimited texts for just £15 per month on an 18 month contract. No minutes are included so you’ll have to pay for calls at a rate of 18p per minute to Vodafone and landlines and 40p per minute to other networks.

Nokia 3120 classic out now on 3

Only £15 per month on an 18 month contract with 300 xnet minutes or 300 texts per month, or any combination of the two. A brilliant no-frills deal with low line rental.

The Nokia 3120 classic is an easy to use phone that will be a breeze to live with. There are no awkward menus or over-complicated features. Everything is where it should be with nicely spaced keys. For a 3G phone it’s also slim and lightweight.

Unlike the entry-level Nokia 3120 from 2004, the new Nokia 3120 classic has a good specification with 3G video calling and a 2 megapixel camera. It has Bluetooth, a web browser, email, an FM radio, media player and a 2.5mm audio socket. The camera is basic but will be fine for snapping occasional photos. It has a flash and can also record video at 320×240 pixels.

I really like the look of this phone. If you want something that does all the essential stuff then the Nokia 3120 classic is definitely worth considering.

New Sony Ericsson W760i out now

New Sony Ericsson W760i mobile phone
The Sony Ericsson W760i is the first Walkman phone to offer integrated GPS and support Google Maps. It’s a great entertainment package that also includes a neat little GPS fitness application called Tracker. Record and analyse time, distance and speed every time you hit the running track or go for a walk. But if fitness isn’t your thing the W760i will keep you entertained too.

With all the usual Walkman features it has plenty to offer including shake control, TrackID and SenseMe. The Sony Ericsson W760i has stereo speakers, stereo bluetooth, an FM radio with RDS and the latest Sony Ericsson Media Center and Walkman 3.0 player. Music-wise the W760i is definitely among the best.

With HSDPA you can browse the web and download music tracks to your phone while on the move. You can also stream YouTube videos direct to the phone. The Sony Ericsson W760i has a built-in accelerometer that enables screen auto rotation. Just turn the screen on its side when viewing photos or videos and the display will automatically rotate to show a widescreen aspect.

The 3 megapixel camera is standard with a basic interface and no autofocus, which is fine as the Sony Ericsson W760i is more a music and media phone than it is a cameraphone. Nevertheless the camera does a good job and with GPS your photos can be geo-tagged, which means their exact location is saved along with the date and time. The W760i photo gallery is particularly good with some nice features such as the ability to view photos by timeline.

I should also mention the built-in motion sensor, which takes gaming on the W760i to another level. Simply move the phone to play the built-in 3D games - Need for Speed Pro Street and Rollercoaster Rush 3D. Sony Ericsson excel in these neat little features which help provide longevity in their mobile phones.

The Sony Ericsson W760i should not be underestimated or ignored. It’s a feature packed phone that will keep you entertained for a very long time.
